Cava Sumant, sumant capacitats
I am walking around Vallvidrera in one of those splendid spring mornings (specifically on the one of the 27th May) and my attention goes straight to the banner placed on the railings of the funicular station. I get closer and read: “Mestres”, “Cupatge Sumant” (adding blend), “Box 21” and the key concept: “Charity cava”. I can also hear some soft melodies coming from inside: there is a cello placed alongside the steps that lead to the terraces in the rear of the building. What is all this? I decide to find out…
… And I do not stop (while I am offered a taste of Cava Sumant, I greet some familiar faces such as sports journalist Victor Patsi or I enjoy the views of the city) until I have the opportunity to interrogate Marc Vives, the manager of Box21 a project that is fighting in order to help people with difficulties to enjoy sports and nature. He explains: “I don’t like the term disability because we are all disabled in one way or another, for example, with which hand do you write? With right one?”, “Yes”, “So you are disabled to write with your left hand. And so on.” Writing precisely plays a crucial role in the project: a large part of the Itinerarium Foundation’s income (the organization linked to the project Box21) receives, comes from the font that Marc’s sister Anna Vives, a girl that has Down syndrome, has created. Marc says: «This is a fun and original calligraphy, it can be downloaded from the Internet free of charge for schools or individuals. Now, big brands and companies have to contribute to the foundation in order to use it and that is how they help funding this project.”
I have –sort of- sneaked in the presentation of the Cava Sumant (‘sumant’ means adding in Catalan) created in collaboration with Caves Mestres and with a packaging based on Anna Vives’ calligraphy. The benefits of its sales will go to «sumant capacitats” (adding capacities): promoting circuits where everyone (including older people or those with physical or intellectual difficulties) will be able to participate. “It is about giving the same opportunities to everyone with these inclusive sports circuits, from the Foundation Itinerarium, we raise awareness and create spaces where everyone can practice sports together.” Tells me Marc Vives. Passejo per Vallvidrera en un d’aquests esplèndids matins primaverals (concretament el del 27 de Maig) i em crida l’atenció la pancarta col·locada sobre les reïxes de l’Estació del funicular. M’acosto i llegeixo: “Mestres”, “Cupatge Sumant”, “Box 21” i, el concepte clau, “cava solidari”. A l’interior, un violoncel·lista entona agradables melodies al costat de les escales que duen a les terrarsses de la part posterior de l’edifici. De què es tracta tot plegat? Em decideixo a esbrinar-ho…
… I no paro (mentre m’ofereixen un tastet del Cava Sumant, saludo a alguna cara coneguda com ara el periodista esportiu Victor Patsi o gaudeixo de les vistes) fins que tinc l’oportunitat d’interrogar al Marc Vives, director del projecte Box21 que lluita per a que les persones amb més dificultats també puguin gaudir de l’esport i de la natura. M’explica: “No m’agrada el terme discapacitat perquè tots ho som d’una manera o altra, per exemple, amb quina mà escrius? Amb la dreta?”, “Sí”, “Doncs tens discapacitat per escriure amb la mà esquerra. Etc.” L’escriptura precisament juga un paper crucial en el projecte: una gran part dels ingressos que la Fundació Itinerarium (vinculada amb Box21) reb, provenen de la cal·lígrafia que la seva germana l’Anna Vives, una noia amb síndrome de Down, ha creat. El Marc comenta: “és una cal·lígrafia divertida i original que es pot baixar per Internet de manera gratuïta per als particulars i les escoles, ara, les grans marques o entitats han de contribuir a la fundació per a fer-la servir, ajudant així a finançar el projecte.”
M’he colat a la presentació del Cava Sumant creat amb la col·laboració de Caves Mestres amb un packaging que té per protagonista la cal·lígrafia de l’Anna Vives. Els beneficis de les ventes es destinaran a “sumar capacitats” promovent circuïts i curses on tothom (incloses persones amb discapacitats físiques o intel·lectuals o d’edat avançada) hi pogui participar. “És tracta que totes les persones tinguem les mateixes oportunitats: en aquests recorreguts inclosius esportius des de la Fundació Itinerarium, sensibilitzem i creem espais on tots, conjuntament, fem esport”, comenta en Marc Vives.
