Art collector Antoni Gelonch Viladegut defines engraving as the most democratic of arts because each piece allows to extract various copies of the same work. He also mentions how, before the invention of photography, this form of expression was used as a propagandistic tool or as a way of portraying a situation for its circulation. This afternoon has taken place, at the Frederic Marès Museum, the opening of the exhibition A look at 1700, based on the Gelonch Viladegut private collection and complemented with a selection of daily life objects from the Museum’s collection. The ensemble takes us on an exquisite journey around the reality of the early XVIIIth century and it also helps us understand, not only the Barcelona of that time, but also the current one: the exhibit is one of the happenings and other exhibitions that are being celebrated this year in order to commemorate the tercentenary of the 1714. It will be on until the 2nd November, 2014.

A LOOK AT 1700. The Enrgravings of the Gelonch Viladegut Collection
